About the Event
Held annually since 1985 in one of the FESA member countries, the European championship is the main shogi event in Europe. The 2013 competitions took place in Minsk, Belarus from the 18th to the 21st of July.
The event consisted of three tournaments:
- the European Shogi Championship (a knock-out tournament for the top 32 rated European players with 5 rounds)
- the World Open Shogi Championship (a McMahon-system tournament with 9 rounds)
- the Blitz Shogi Championship (a tournament with short time limit with 8 rounds)
The exhibition hall of the Minsk City Youth Centre served as a venue for the competitions.
